Syria participates in 111th session of ILO Conference, calls for lifting coercive measures

Geneva, SANA- President of the General Federation of Syrian Trade Unions, Jamal Al-Qadri, called for effective mechanisms to tackle the grim situation experienced by workers in the occupied Arab territories and the occupied Syrian Golan as a result of the racist practices of the occupying “Israeli” authorities that deprive these workers of their basic rights guaranteed by the ILO conventions.

He also stressed the need to hold a special session to discuss the Israeli violations and take appropriate action to put an end to them.

In a speech at the 111th session of the International Labor Organization Conference held in Geneva, Al-Qadiri gave an overview of the impact of the unjust economic blockade and the terrorist war on the vital sectors of the country and the daily life of the Syrian people.

Accordingly, he marked the importance of strengthening the ILO’ role and contribution to providing assistance programs to production engines in Syria to help them recover from the aftermath of the war and the devastating earthquake.

He called for an immediate lifting of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people by the countries that finance and sponsor terrorism.

Qaderi expressed his hope that the organization would not fall into the trap of politicizing and adopting repressive methods in dealing with the affairs of some countries.

The conference holds its annual conference from June 5th-16th, in which worker, employer and government delegates from the ILO’s 187 Member States address a wide range of issues, including a just transition towards sustainable and inclusive economies, quality apprenticeships, and labor protection.
