If “Fact Checkers” can report on “Fake News,” then We, the People, can point out Propaganda.

It’s everywhere!

Ashwin Vasan, MD, PhD

The Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

PRESS RELEASE:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, August 29, 2023

STATEMENT FROM THE NYC HEALTH COMMISSIONER DR. ASHWIN VASAN ON THE BA.2.86 COVID-19 VARIANT

Like all viruses, Covid-19 adapts, and we continue to adapt to keep New Yorkers safe too. One recent change to COVID-19 is the BA.2.86 variant, which has been seen in other parts of the U.S. and was recently detected in New York City’s sewage. While we have yet to find it in a specimen from a local resident, it is almost certainly circulating here.

Based on the degree of mutations – while vaccinated people continue to be protected against serious illness – this variant may be more likely to evade immunity that has developed from vaccination or prior infection than earlier variants. But there is currently no indication that it causes more severe illness. We continue to monitor this carefully, alongside our colleagues at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

As cases rise, precautions become increasingly important, especially for our most vulnerable New Yorkers who are older, disabled, or have underlying health conditions. Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, along with other proven prevention tools – like masking, testing, and staying home when sick – continue to be our best defense against COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses. Antibodies from vaccination and prior infection will continue to provide some protection, as will available antiviral treatments like Paxlovid, which is still effective against all circulating strains of COVID-19.

As we enter the traditional respiratory virus season, an updated COVID-19 vaccine is expected to become available in the coming weeks. Studies are still evaluating the new booster for its effectiveness against the BA.2.86 variant, but indicators suggest it will be effective at preventing severe illness and death. That’s why it’s especially important that New Yorkers that are most vulnerable get the new booster when it's available. New Yorkers should talk to their health care or vaccination providers about the updated COVID-19 vaccine and this year’s flu vaccine. It is also a perfect time to get this year’s flu vaccine when available. For new parents, talk to your child’s pediatrician about the benefits of the RSV monoclonal antibody for infants, and for older or at-risk adults, talk to your provider about getting the new RSV vaccine. For assistance with finding a health care provider, call 311 or visit vaccinefinder.nyc.gov to find a location near you and make an appointment.

Let’s begin by putting the situation into perspective with some information from the CDC:

Scientific Understanding of BA.2.86 as of August 23, 2023

What follows is a scientific assessment of BA.2.86’s risk profile based on what CDC knows now.

Human cases: As of August 23, 2023, 9 BA.2.86 variant sequences have been reported globally: Denmark (3); South Africa (2); Israel (1); United States (2) and United Kingdom (1). One of the cases in the United States is in a person detected through CDC’s Traveler-based Genomic Surveillance

It is also important to note that the current increase in hospitalizations in the United States is not likely driven by the BA.2.86 variant.

https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/whats-new/covid-19-variant.html

To repeat:

On August 23, 2023 there had been 2 variant sequences of BA.2.86 in the United States.

A. Possible accurate statements found in this press release:

“But there is currently no indication that it causes more severe illness.”

“While we have yet to find it in a specimen from a local resident…”

“We continue to monitor this carefully, alongside our colleagues at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.”

B. Propaganda and mis-information found in his press release:

“Like all viruses, Covid-19 adapts, and we continue to adapt to keep New Yorkers safe too.”

It seems like there is no adaptation whatsoever by the Department of Health and Mental Hygeine. All they offer is masking, social distancing and isolation, which are the same failed responses that they have used in the past.

“One recent change to COVID-19 is the BA.2.86 variant, which has been seen in other parts of the U.S. and was recently detected in New York City’s sewage.”

The press release offered no “proof” of such detection and it failed to report upon the methodology by which any such determination was made. Please realize that if the PCR methodology was used, PCR does not and cannot test for viable pathogens because the process begins with the destruction of any pathogen in order to access the genetic sequence contained within.

While it is possible that the Health Commissioner has access to more up-to-date information that is not yet available to the public, the latest available data from the CDC (screenshot from noon Eastern time on September 2, 2023) failed to confirm the claim made by the NYC Health Commissioner.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Wastewater Surveillance is one of the techniques that the World Health Organization wants to dramatically INCREASE funding for, in order to increase the likelihood that they will be able to claim to have found evidence of “pathogens with pandemic potential” in order to support their declarations of Public Health Emergencies of International Concern (PHEIC).

The data that is currently available on the CDC Wastewater Surveillance dashboard actually shows that the level of “SARS-CoV-2” found in NYC is relatively low when compared to past levels.

“It is almost certainly circulating here.”

This is blatant speculation and fear-mongering.

If there is proof, please provide it. If there is no proof, please do not speculate.

“Based on the degree of mutations… this variant may be more likely to evade immunity that has developed from vaccination or prior infection than earlier variants.”

The use of the phrase “may be” is designed to arouse fears that cannot be justified by any actual data.

If the new variant is “likely to evade immunity that has developed from vaccination,” then what is the point of “vaccination”?

“While vaccinated people continue to be protected against serious illness.”

Another statement that is not, and cannot be backed up by any published research. This is also pure speculation and it is in conflict with the previous claim that this variant “may be more likely to evade immunity that has developed from vaccination.”

“Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, along with other proven prevention tools – like masking, testing, and staying home when sick – continue to be our best defense against COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses.”

The press release fails to accurately define how “Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines” would be of benefit to one’s health. There have been numerous reports that the “effectiveness” of the COVID-19 jabs is actually negative - meaning that the more jabs one receives, the more likely one is to be diagnosed with COVID-19.

Ample research showing that the wearing of masks is NOT an effective way to prevent COVID-19.  http://MaskCharade.com

Testing, regardless of its form, is absolutely not a “defense” against COVID-19. The use of the language in this manner is deceptive, at best.

“Staying home when sick” is also obviously not a “defense” against COVID-19. This statement is clearly preposterous.

“Antibodies from vaccination… will continue to provide some protection.”

No proof is offered, because none is available. No studies conducted on BA.2.86 were referenced in the press release.

No studies were provided showing that antibodies from vaccination will “provide some protection” from any new strains of SARS-CoV-2. This is pure speculation.

However, mRNA generated spike protein from the failed vaccinations will continue to trigger disease, disability and death in billions of people worldwide.

“As will available antiviral treatments like Paxlovid, which is still effective against all circulating strains of COVID-19.”

According to the CDC (see below), there are over two dozen “strains” currently circulating in the United States. Paxlovid has not, and could not possibly have been tested against all of these strains. This is blatant speculation and no data, research or clinical trials were offered by the Commissioner of Health and Mental Hygiene to support this claim.

“As we enter the traditional respiratory virus season,”

This statement, released on August 29, 2023, is obviously premature and appears to be an attempt to “move the Overton Window” to keep people in a state of “respiratory virus fear” for extended periods of time.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/index.html

“Studies are still evaluating the new booster for its effectiveness against the BA.2.86 variant, but indicators suggest it will be effective at preventing severe illness and death. That’s why it’s especially important that New Yorkers that are most vulnerable get the new booster when it's available.”

It is not likely that “the new booster” has been or is currently being tested “for its effectiveness against the BA.2.86 variant.” It is far more likely to have been designed using variants that will essentially be extinct (not circulating) by the time “the new biological weapon” is available.

No studies are referenced to explain what is meant by the statement: “but indicators suggest it will be effective at preventing severe illness and death.” It seems quite likely that the “indicators” are really the fact that nearly 100% of people survive COVID-19 if they simply ignore the official advice and take well-informed steps to help themselves deal with this largely mild ailment.

C. Blatant marketing for pharmaceutical products found in this press release:

“While vaccinated people continue to be protected against serious illness…”

“Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines… continue[s] to be our best defense against COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses.”

“Antibodies from vaccination… will continue to provide some protection.”

“As will available antiviral treatments like Paxlovid, which is still effective against all circulating strains of COVID-19.”

“Studies are still evaluating the new booster for its effectiveness against the BA.2.86 variant, but indicators suggest it will be effective at preventing severe illness and death. That’s why it’s especially important that New Yorkers that are most vulnerable get the new booster when it's available.”

“New Yorkers should talk to their health care or vaccination providers about the updated COVID-19 vaccine and this year’s flu vaccine. It is also a perfect time to get this year’s flu vaccine when available.”

“For new parents, talk to your child’s pediatrician about the benefits of the RSV monoclonal antibody for infants, and for older or at-risk adults, talk to your provider about getting the new RSV vaccine.”

Beyfortus is a monoclonal antibody (laboratory-made proteins that mimic the immune system’s ability to fight off harmful pathogens such as viruses).

Beyfortus received a Fast Track designation for this drug. The FDA granted this approval to AstraZeneca AB. It is distributed by Sanofi Pasteur, Inc.

The New York City Health Commissioner conveniently neglected to point out the potential side effects of Beyfortus when he blatantly advertised and promoted the injectable drug in his press release.

Your child may still get RSV disease after receiving BEYFORTUS. Talk to your child’s healthcare provider about what symptoms to look for.
