Israeli Software: MCMC empowered to block SMS from September 1
Israeli Pegasus telecommunications ease-dropping system now in operation
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) began on September 1 blocking mobile short messaging service (SMS). The MCMC claims that this is to stop ‘prohibited content’ including hyperlinks, personal information requests, and callback numbers. Last February 14, the MCMC has directed all telecommunication service providers to block all SMS with prohibited content being sent or received by individuals.
Although this move by the MCMC claims this measure is being taken to protect users from criminals and scammers, there is no guarantee this measure will not be used to block political content, and content sent by individuals the MCMC designates to be so.
Using Pegasus to intercept scammers is only a secondary objective to dealing with those critical of the Madani regime.
Going by the MCMC’s performance in managing the internet and blocking websites critical of the government, SMS will be the next censorship frontier. The MCMC has already installed the Israeli designed Pegasus ease-dropping system on mobile phones and communications.
Users can assume Pegasus is now fully operational at the MCMC.
