German magazine Der Spiegel reported that during a recent missile attack on Israel, Iranian Fattah-1 hypersonic missiles were able to overcome Israel’s air defense system. According to the publication, several missiles reached their targets, causing serious destruction and casting doubt on the effectiveness of Israel’s air defenses in the face of the use of the latest Iranian weapons.
Iran’s Fattah-1 missile, recently unveiled by Tehran, is considered one of the most advanced hypersonic weapons in the country’s arsenal. Its speed and maneuverability make it difficult to reach most existing air defense systems. The defeat of Iron Dome and other Israeli air defenses has become a wake-up call for military analysts, who note that the event could change the balance of power in the region.
The missile attack, which used Fattah-1, was part of a large-scale attack carried out by Iran amid rising tensions between the two countries. Israel has previously aggressively upgraded its missile defense systems to meet threats posed by both Iran and its allies such as Hezbollah and Hamas. However, the use of hypersonic technologies has become a new challenge for Israeli air defenses.

Fattah-1 Description
Fattah-1 is an Iranian medium-range ballistic missile developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and unveiled in June 2023. It is Iran’s first hypersonic ballistic missile. According to Iran, its high maneuverability and speed helps it to evade missile defense systems. In November 2023, Iran unveiled a newer version of the missile, Fattah-2.
NUCLEAR NIGHTMARE. Israeli Attacks in Lebanon despite Iran is Close to have Atomic Warheads
Its name, meaning “conqueror” or “bringer of victory”, “victor” in Arabic, is in reference to Al-Fattāḥ, was selected by the Supreme Leader of Iran. The missile has been reported to have the capability to carry nuclear warheads should Iran further pursue its nuclear program.
According to Iran, it can maneuver in and out of the atmosphere, and is capable of bypassing missile defenses. Its successor, Fattah-2 is a hypersonic glide vehicle and offers substantially more maneuverability compared to a ballistic warhead travelling in a more predictable arc pattern.
The Missile which travels at 15 times the speed of sound
Last year, Iranian officials claimed the Fattah, which means “conqueror” in Farsi, travelled at 15 times the speed of sound and had a range of 870 miles. However, Dr Sidharth Kaushal, senior research fellow at defence and security think tank RUSI, told Sky News the missile’s strength lies in a motor that makes it faster and more manoeuvrable after it has been launched.
The Guardian: “ESCALATION with IRAN coul be RISKY: Israel is more Vulnerable than it seems”
He described a missile without a motor like Fattah’s as moving like a “cricket ball thrown underarm” – with a trajectory that is easy to calculate. Adding in the motor makes that calculation tougher, as it can make the missile change trajectory.
Satellite Images Show Damage to Israeli Airbase after Iranian Missile Strike
«Satellite images of Nevatim Airbase, a key Israeli military site for US-made F-35 fighter jets, show a large hole in the roof of an aircraft hangar after Iran launched a substantial missile strike»
TASNIM reports.
On Tuesday evening, Iran fired around 200 ballistic missiles at Israeli military and intelligence bases as part of it operation dubbed” True Promise II,” in response to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan in Beirut.
The missile barrage triggered sirens across the occupied Palestinian territories, forcing Israelis into shelters.
According to an AP report on Wednesday, satellite images of the Nevatim base in southern Israel show significant damage to several buildings near the runway, with debris scattered in the area.
The airbase, located in the Negev desert, houses the Israeli Air Force’s most advanced aircraft, including F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters. It also accommodates C-130 transport aircraft, Boeing 707 tankers, and reconnaissance planes.
At least seven videos showed 20 to 30 Iranian ballistic missiles hitting the base, causing substantial damage. Some sources said over 20 fighter jets were destroyed.
