Exposed: Israel’s broken promises, lies, at Gazans’ expense – Ceasefire Day 6
Compilation of news reports – IAK staff
(Day 739 of Israel’s Latest War on Gaza)
Israel killed 7 Palestinians in Gaza on Tuesday, in spite of the ceasefire; 2 others succumbed to earlier wounds.
25 martyrs arrived at Gaza Strip hospitals over the past 24 hours.
About 250 bodies have been recovered since the ceasefire began. Civil defense workers and loved ones continue to dig out bodies of Palestinians that were buried in the rubble during the war.
NOTE: Only the dead who are brought to hospitals are included in the official fatality count. At this point, most of the dead being recorded have been recovered from under the rubble. Others have succumbed to earlier injuries.

Israel kills nine Palestinians just hours after Gaza truce begins
Nine Palestinian civilians have died since the Gaza ceasefire came into effect, health officials said on Tuesday, as the death toll from Israel’s devastating two-year war continues to rise. Seven people were killed earlier Tuesday, while two others succumbed to their wounds from previous Israeli strikes.
An Israeli drone killed five Palestinians when they were inspecting their homes in the Shujayea neighborhood on Tuesday. The Israeli military claimed, without providing evidence, they were approaching soldiers.

Israel limits aid into Gaza in dispute over hostage remains
Hamas has handed over the remains of 8 hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross, leaving 20 to be accounted for. Hamas said it was facing obstacles as not all the burial sites had been identified.
The Red Cross, which is overseeing the transfer of remains, warned on Monday that the retrieval was a “massive challenge” given the difficulties of finding bodies in Gaza’s rubble, and could take days or weeks.
But Israel responded severely, accusing Hamas of deliberate delays*. It announced the halving of the number of aid trucks allowed into Gaza to 300 a day, and postponed the opening of a major aid crossing point into Gaza from Egypt at Rafah, both violations of the ceasefire agreement brokered by Donald Trump.
Trump urged Hamas to release the remaining bodies, saying it was necessary to enable the next phase of the Gaza plan. “A big burden has been lifted, but the job IS NOT DONE. THE DEAD HAVE NOT BEEN RETURNED, AS PROMISED!” Trump posted on social media. “Phase Two begins right NOW!!!”
A senior Hamas source said that the group “made it clear during the negotiations that time and great efforts will be needed after the withdrawal of the occupying Israeli forces, to collect information about the bodies.”
The source said the scale of Israel’s destruction had transformed “the geography of the area”, making it “extremely difficult” to identify locations where the captives’ bodies are. The source added that despite Israel’s bad-faith efforts, Hamas was fully committed to returning the bodies of captives.
*NOTE: Clearly, the demand for remains within 72 hours was a setup. For anyone who tends not to believe what Hamas says, nearly a week ago, CNN reported that Israel and the US have known for months that “Hamas may not know the location of, or is unable to retrieve, the remains of some of the 28 remaining deceased hostages.”
The cruelty of this withholding of aid can not be overstated. Before the war, thanks to Israel’s blockade, 80% of Gazans required aid to survive, and 500 truckloads came in every day. During the 730+ days of war, Israel allowed only a trickle of aid on the best days. The enclave never received the vast majority of the 365,000 truckloads needed over two years. Israel has essentially trapped Hamas by demanding of the group something Israel knew could not be done. Cutting in half the small amount of aid coming in now is the height of inhumanity.

Israel formally admits to restricting aid to Palestinian civilians
By formally notifying the United Nations that it will restrict humanitarian assistance to Gaza to pressure Hamas to locate and release the bodies of slain captives, Israel is openly admitting it’s weaponizing aid for military and political aims – a claim it has long denied.
For the past two years, Israel has been promoting falsehoods to deny the accusation, including unfounded claims that Hamas is stealing the aid and the baseless argument that UN agencies are failing to deliver it.
During the first 2 days of the ceasefire, a total of just 173 trucks entered Gaza, way below the promised 600.

Unexploded bombs pose ‘enormous’ risks in Gaza: NGO
Unexploded ordnance in Gaza poses “enormous” risks for displaced people returning home during the US-led ceasefire, the NGO Handicap International warns, calling for the entry of equipment needed for de-mining. Handicap International specializes in mine clearance and assistance to victims of antipersonnel mines.
“The risks are enormous – an estimated 70,000 tons of explosives have been dropped on Gaza” since the start of the war, said Anne-Claire Yaeesh, the organization’s director for the occupied Palestinian territory. In January, the UN’s Mine Action Service estimated that “5 to 10 percent” of the munitions fired on Gaza had not exploded.

Day After: Egypt announces 15 approved technocrats to lead Gaza
Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s foreign minister, says 15 Palestinian technocrats have been chosen to administer Gaza with approval from Israel, Hamas and all other Palestinian factions.
“We need to deploy them to take care of the daily life of the people in Gaza, and the Board of Peace should support and supervise the flow of finance and money, which will come for the reconstruction of Gaza,” he said, referring to a board that would govern Gaza and be chaired by President Trump.

Israel’s Smotrich declares intent to re-establish Gaza settlements
Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, said at an event in the city of Sderot that “there will be Jewish settlements in Gaza. We have patience, but we have determination and faith, and with God’s help, we will continue the series of victories and great miracles.”
The ceasefire deal that Trump brokered and promised to ensure its implementation requires Israel to withdraw its army from Gaza.

Released Israeli hostages give accounts of their time in captivity
After the jubilation in Israel of the return of the last Gaza hostages, stories of their time in captivity, hidden away in tents and tunnels, are emerging.
Some described being tortured and tormented. Others, though, recalled moments of co-existence with their captors under the most extreme of circumstances. One played cards with the men holding him and even cooked for them. Another said the captors would speak Hebrew for ease of communication. All, though, shared moments of extraordinary danger (continue reading here).

Palestinians see ‘new Nakba’ in West Bank villages as demolitions return
At nine o’clock on a Monday morning in May, the quiet of Khallet al-Daba was shattered by the sound of bulldozers and other demolition vehicles approaching. Accompanying them were Israeli soldiers pouring into the village, forcing families out of their homes and driving livestock into the open.
By the end of May 5, the small community in the heart of Masafer Yatta had been reduced to rubble. It was just one of at least four mass demolitions conducted by Israeli forces this year. For residents, the repeated demolitions are nothing less than a “new Nakba” – an echo of the mass displacement and ethnic cleansing Palestinians suffered in 1948 (continue reading here).

Trump on the disarming of Hamas
Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Trump said: “If they don’t disarm, we will disarm them and it will happen quickly and perhaps violently. But they will disarm, do you understand me?” he added, saying it should take place in a “reasonable period of time.”
A U.S. official and a source with knowledge said Hamas expressed its willingness to give up its heavy weapons — mainly rockets and missiles — to a Palestinian or Arab entity, but insisted on keeping their guns for self-defense.

Meta removes account of slain journalist Saleh Aljafarawi
The US tech company has erased the Instagram account of Palestinian journalist Saleh Aljafarawi, less than two days after he was shot dead in the Gaza Strip.
Aljafarawi spent the last two years documenting Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, sharing his work on his verified Instagram account, where he had more than 4.5 million followers.
Meta reportedly said it had removed Aljafarawi’s account under its ban on “dangerous organizations and dangerous individuals” without providing any context or evidence.

Joe Biden congratulates Trump, lies about his own peacemaking efforts
In a post on X, former President Biden said: I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come – for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives.
“The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line. Now, with the backing of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on a path to peace that I hope endures and a future for Israelis and Palestinians alike with equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety.

California governor vetoes antisemitism policing bill
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California and a likely 2028 Democratic presidential contender, vetoed a bill on Monday that would have required social media companies to pay fines every time their algorithms promoted posts deemed violent or discriminatory.
The state’s legislature pressed ahead with Senate Bill 771 (SB 771) with a particular focus on rooting out antisemitism, and in response to looser regulations online since the election of US President Donald Trump, who had accused media companies across the board of being too left-leaning, and of censoring right-wing voices.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) said the bill would have specifically suppressed anti-Israel speech and targeted pro-Palestine voices, calling the veto a “decisive victory for the First Amendment” because the bill would have employed the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, and used it “to police lawful speech about Israel and Palestine.”
