Israel soldiers who killed 15 emergency workers in 'cold blood' & army who lied deserve universal condemnation: Shanmugam
"Soldiers may do wrong. But the Army as an institution has a higher duty to do the right thing."

Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam put up a Facebook post about the recent killing of 15 emergency workers by Israeli soldiers.
Shanmugam laid out the problems he had with both the actions of the soldiers, and the military.Broadly he categorised it as soldiers killing in cold blood, and the army lying about it.
"Video footage has emerged which shows Israeli soldiers killed emergency workers in cold blood.
And then the Israeli Army lied about it."
The Israel Army had initially claimed vehicles had advanced "suspiciously" towards its troops. They also claimed the vehicles were without headlights or emergency signals.
A claim that has since been debunked by video footage.
He then pointed out the difference between the actions of soldiers and an army.
"Massacres, lies. Soldiers may do wrong. But the Army as an institution has a higher duty to do the right thing. But the Army seems to have tried to cover up the soldersâ illegal actions."
As well as the importance of rule of law.
"Israel will say Hamas does the same. But is that even an excuse for a State that says its values are based on Rule of Law?"
He ended off with: "These actions deserve universal condemnation."
Background on killings
On Mar. 23 near Al-Hashashin, soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) opened fire on a convoy of ambulances and a fire truck, resulting in 15 deaths.
The IDF initially claimed that troops fired on vehicles "advancing suspiciously" without headlights or emergency signals.
It also claimed that a Hamas operative and "eight other terrorists" were among those killed.
The Red Cross movement instead said that the 15 casualties were eight Palestinian medics, six Civil Defence first responders and a UN staff member.
A video then emerged that contradicted the IDFâs claim, showing that the vehicles had their headlights and emergency lights switched on when they came under fire. Two people who exited the vehicles were also wearing reflective clothing.
The video was taken by one of the paramedics, Rifaat Radwan, who was later killed by the IDF.
