In violation of Article 1 of the American constitution, which vests Congress approval powers for making war, the War Powers Act, passed by Congress in November 1973, President Joe Biden started a war against Yemen by ordering 73 military strikes against Yemeni capital and other targets during Friday dawn hours Yemeni local time. It is noticed that at least one of the explosions was produced by a mini-nuke exhibiting similar effects to that of the 2015 Saudi/Israeli nuclear attack on Yemen.

President Biden announced that an American British joint force had successfully bombed Yemeni targets the Houthis use to threaten the safety of Red Sea maritime commerce. In a media release the White House mentioned the operation’s purpose and named relevant participants:

“In response to continued illegal, dangerous, and destabilizing Houthi attacks against vessels, including commercial shipping, transiting the Red Sea, the armed forces of the United States and the United Kingdom, with support from the Netherlands, Canada, Bahrain, and Australia, conducted joint strikes in accordance with the inherent right of individual and collective self-defense.”

We need to go back a couple of months to understand the history and the real motivations and goals of this attack. Since the 7th of last October Palestinian break out of the Israeli open-air concentration camp of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli forces have been perpetrating genocidal war crimes against civilian Palestinians. As of Thursday, the 11 more than 28,201 killed including 12,040 children, 6,103 women, 241 health workers, and 105 journalists.  More than 60,000 wounded plus thousands more missing under the rubble. An estimated 1.5 million Palestinians are now homeless after the destruction of about 70% of the Gaza Strip’s civilian homes and infrastructure.  Israel prevents entry to any humanitarian aid, food, water, fuel, and medicine. Many are dying out of starvation, thirst, cold winter weather, and lack of medicine while the whole world is watching, not doing anything to help.

The Yemeni Ansarullah Houthis came to the rescue. They announced that they will block entry of the Bab al-Mandab Strait into the Red Sea to any Israeli ship and any ship sailing to Israel, using force if necessary, yet not sinking the ship, until Israel ceasefire and allow entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza Palestinians.

Yemen had never previously posed any obstacle to any navigation in the Red Sea to any ships, including Israeli and Israeli destined ships, until Israel carried out its genocidal war crimes against Gaza Palestinians. They blocked only Israeli navigation in support to Palestine. They emphasized, though, that Bab al-Mandeb Strait is open to all other ships. The Houthis also announced that they will launch missiles and military drones against the Israeli port of Eilat until Israel ceasefire.

And that they did affecting Israeli economy dearly. This pushed Biden’s administration to attempt to form what was announced by US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin III as a US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian, “a coalition of more than 20 nations committed to defending international shipping and deterring Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.”

Yet, many countries did not see any actual threat to their own couriers. The threat was only against Israeli ships. Thus, such a coalition failed to materialize except in the administration’s disillusioned mind and failed to regain confidence among Israeli carriers, who refuse to transit the Red Sea and preferred the safety of going around the African continent through the Cape of Good Hope taking longer time and adding expenses.

Houthis’ action is perceived as a peaceful humanitarian support to Palestinian lives compared to the genocidal military American support to Israeli war crimes.

Biden sent American naval destroyers to the Red Sea to shoot down Houthi’s missiles and to protect Israeli ships. A collision with the Houthi forces was destined to happen.  On December 31st the Houthis were trying to divert the ship Maersk Hangzhou, destined to Israel, who refused to respond to warning calls. Helicopters from US warships were launched for the rescue. They sank three Houthi boats killing 10 Houthi sailors in the process.

Another serious confrontation took place on January 10th when the Houthis launched more missiles and drones towards Israel. The missiles were intercepted by American USS Laboon and British HMS Diamond navy destroyers. In the process they fired at the Houthi launching sites. The Houthis responded by firing missiles at the destroyers.

During the dawn hours of Friday January 12th,an American-British joint force hit 73 Yemeni targets. This attack, though, failed to cripple Houthis missile launching pads and radars. The Houthis anticipated such attacks and were ready for it. Their bases were protected. Few hours later, they launched more missiles and drones against Israel. The USS Carney destroyer was ordered to fire tomahawk missiles to destroy Yemeni radars an indication that the first strike failed to accomplish its goals.

Although the Houthis had announced many times that the Red Sea is open to all international ships except the Israelis, and they have not killed nor injured anybody in the process, the Americans and British forces killed ten Houthi sailors and bombed Yemeni targets claiming that they are protecting maritime traffic in the Red Sea.

This scandalous claim cannot hide the fact that the bombing came only to protect Israel, whose economy had suffered tremendously. Biden’s administration wants to give Israel all the time it needs to forcefully expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip without any effective pressure. It is enough that Israel is facing condemnation in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

US and UK are seriously endangering their economic interests to protect Israel’s with this attack.   Yemen now has the legal and moral right to defend itself and to retaliate against any attack. The Houthis announced that British and American interests have become legitimate targets. The Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden will witness more serious action.

Biden’s administration further has announced on Friday the imposition of sanctions on two shipping companies; “Ceelo Maritime” based in Hong Kong, and “Global Tech Marine Services” based in the United Arab Emirates, in a move aimed at undermining financial support for the “Iranian-backed” Yemeni Houthis. To make things worse, Biden has stupidly announced that American attack on Yemen sends “a message” to Iran. The administration seems to naively think that it can freely attack any country, and that by later claiming that it does not want to escalate the conflict that there would be no payback.

Successive American administrations are in the habit of justifying their military aggression in the Middle East as a response to Iran-backed militias, Iran-backed Hezbollah, Iran-backed Syria, Iran-backed Hamas, and Iran-backed Yemen, but American-backed genocidal Israel is seen legitimate.

American British attack on Yemen has expanded the military conflict in the region and has made American and British ships and military bases in the region legal targets for Yemen. Let’s remember that an alliance of Israel, US, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates had waged a nine-year long war could not defeat Yemen, who was able to successfully target Saudi Aramco petroleum storage surpassing the American Patriot Missile system that failed to protect the Saudi facilities. Similarly, Yemen has the capability of attacking American bases in the Persian Gulf with their missiles and drones.

The last few presidents had sacrificed the safety of American economic interests and the safety of American bases in the Middle East for Israel’s sake. President Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act giving military aid to groups against Saddam Hussein, Israel’s strong enemy at the time. He also participated in the ill-fated Oslo I Accord between Israelis and Palestinians. President Bush invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama sent more troops to Iraq and Syria allegedly to attack American-created ISIS, then waged war against Libya. Trump pushed Saudi Arabia and UAE to attack Yemen and sent troops to join this war. He ordered missile strikes against Syria in 2017 and again in 2018. He withdrew the US from the nuclear treaty with Iran (JCPOA) and ordered the assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani prompting Iranian retaliation against two American bases in Iraq. Biden is providing Israel with the most devastating weapons to wipe Gaza to the ground, vetoed all UN resolutions to ceasefire, and now attacked Yemen intensifying the WWIII we are witnessing at the present.

It would have been more peaceful, more humanely, and more honorably if Biden had listened to Yemeni demands and stopped supplying Israel with bombs to massacre Palestinians and ordered Israel to ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid entry to the Gaza Strip to save thousands of lives.
