AI is watching: 500 advanced cameras to be placed around Iskandar Puteri, says mayor

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A total of 500 artificial intelligence-enabled closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be placed around the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) area as part of the government's effort to establish a smart city.

MBIP mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad (pic) said the cameras would be placed in public areas and hotspots by local developers as part of the council’s public-private partnership.

“Each CCTV is equipped with a facial and vehicle recognition system, which are important features when it comes to creating a safe and smart city.

"The council will also work closely with the police to provide any footage and data they need once all the CCTVs are in place," he said after MBIP's appreciation ceremony for strategic partners at the Sunway Hotel Big Box here on Monday (March 6).

Mohd Haffiz added that this was part of the MBIP Strategic Plan 2026 to turn Iskandar Puteri into a smart and sustainable city.

“We also have plans for smart traffic lights, lighting and parking systems, which are ongoing,” he said.

Mohd Affiz said the CCTV cameras cost between RM7,000 and RM30,000 depending on the AI capabilities.
